RE News

I am so excited and honored to report that the RE Kids raised 346.50$ for Tsunami Relief. The money was raised through the kids performing "Random Acts of Kindness" for which they were recognized with a small contribution. Money was also raised at the Bake Sale and "Street Musicians and More" where the RE kids either performed musically or created arts/crafts to offer to the congregation for free will offerings. The kids were rewarded for their efforts with a pizza party after social hour. We also took a tour of International Aid in the early afternoon. All funds raised were donated to International Aid specifically for Tsunami Relief. Thank you to the RE
Kids for all your hard work and wonderful performances! Also thanks go to parents and the congregation for their generous support!

Coming up in April we will again have our Annual Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for our support of Nepali Student Bikram Rai. The Dinner is tentatively scheduled on April 17th following the Earth Day Family Service. Look for more information to come in the March mid-month newsletter and the Order of Service!

For those of you who didn't get a HUUC logo shirt or bag prior to Christmas look for another opportunity to order in April!

RE News

A special thank you to the high school class (Justin Holmes, Nolan Stier and Riley Helsen) and teachers (Susan Fabrick, Jessica Sheldon, Marcia Hovey-Wright and Tim Hamlin) for the “Adopt-a-Family” Project they took on during the holidays. Especially to Susan Fabrick for her tremendous role in making this service project happen! Thank you also to the congregation for supporting this project with your generous contributions.

Another thank you goes out to the volunteers who took down and put away all the holiday decorations in the RE Space. Thanks to Judy and Jim Root for donating many decorations this year.

The HUUC logo shirt sale raised 72$ in profit for the congregation. Thank you to Shawn Willson for organizing this great event and thanks to Nancy Stier for assisting with ordering. If you missed out on buying one of these great shirts look for this sale to happen again in the Spring!

RE is Evolving

RE at HUUC is growing and changing... and we want you to be a part of the excitement! Our classes are expanding, our space is looking great and we want the input of those adults in the community who have experienced life enough to help guide the RE Committee. We are formulating plans for the next year, the next five years, and far into the future. If you have ideas or preferences for the religious education program of HUUC, consider visiting during one of our planning sessions or contact DRE Sandi Stephans or Committee Chair, Carolyn Holmes with your ideas. Anyone is welcome to join. The next RE Committee meeting is on Thursday, January 6 at 6:30 p.m., at HUUC. Call Carolyn at 744-4099 for information.

High School RE Class Project

Share Our Abundance During the Holidays

The high school RE class is sponsoring a holiday basket for a family selected by the principal of Nims School (the elementary school a few blocks from our church building). There will be a small tree with ornaments in the fellowship hall starting next week. Each ornament will have a "wish" item for our family. Please take an ornament and return an unwrapped gift by Sunday, December 19. The high school RE class will wrap and deliver the gifts before Christmas.

Our family is made up of a single mother who has not been able to work for some time due to back surgery. She has three daughters, ages 11, 5 and 9.

We will also be delivering a food basket to our family. A list of suggested items will be placed under the tree in the fellowship hall. A holiday traditions book will also be under the tree, and you are invited to share special holiday recipes and traditions that you and your family have enjoyed

Childern's Religious Education Report August 2004

Children’s Religious Education

Our HUUC RE program is growing by leaps and bounds over the summer months! Our space is improving and our classes are growing. We would welcome participation from any of our members as we move quickly toward another church school year. This is an excellent time to consider joining the RE Committee to offer your input and ideas. Committee participation does not require a teaching commitment. Long or short-term service to this dynamic group is most welcome! Join us for one meeting or for the entire year. The next RE Committee meeting will take place at HUUC on Thursday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m. For more information, or to offer your suggestions for our RE Program, contact Carolyn Holmes, RE Chair.
